Top Notch Sewing Notions

I was appointed Packaging Designer and Product Development Designer for a Private Label Sewing Notions Program. This program was designed to offer sewing specialists a less expensive alternative for their sewing essentials. It was set to release in September for National Sewing Month. My team and I worked tirelessly to place these items on our store floor. Our hard work paid off since this program has earned the company a total of $4 million in sales annually.

I was presented with a trend deck and sourced patterns from our product development that aligned with the trend direction. I edited the colors and scales of the patterns so they translated onto the different materials of the products and stayed consistent with the trend. I designed CADs for each product in different color ways to consumer insight test alongside national brands. Many of the products I designed scored higher than national brands with our customers which signified we should move forward with this program. I was sent fabric and product samples to approve and sell in store.

As for the packaging aspect, I gathered the dimensions of the previous sewing notions packaging we used and grouped them into standard packaging dimensions. I created dielines for each set of dimensions and applied the brand guidelines of our internal brand to these formats. Once I sent these dielines to the vendor, I had to approve each format digitally and physically to ensure they were ready for print production.
